That is the battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy M51 we have for you today. Sure, you can drive that 7,000mAh (thank you, SI), but with great capabilities and as a good rotation, we can go with a few signals and an additional amount of shock.

There is nothing more exciting in this Galaxy spreadsheet, but nothing more is missing. The Snapdragon 730G chipset should deliver good performance without adding a lot of battery pressure, the 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display is large and inky, and the 64MP camera is more versatile than the 48MP main units.

What is missing is the high level of refreshment at the show, and the 90Hz panels are now very common in the M51 price range, with the odd 120Hz panel also displaying. The phone camera would also be nice, even though are not exactly the same as this category. Nowhere to be found on the M51 5G support as well.

Samsung Galaxy M51 unboxing

Samsung Galaxy M51 Display:

The M51 is also capable of reproducing color reliably. Clear and natural color patterns are available. Natural is the content of sRGB content, and in our experiment, a deltaE2000 standard 2.5, which is suitable as a ‘correct color’, has been introduced. Naturally, this sRGB-focused ‘Natural’ mode has a complete muted look.

It’s nice that out of the box you get a Galaxy M51 display set to ‘Vivid’ where the gamut is wide, and the colors are punchy. We tested this mode with DCI-P3 color swatches and found a deviation of 3.7 units, which is almost there, too. This deviation is not entirely bad, but there was a cool blue for whites (deltaE of 8). That can be remedied by crossing a cool and warm slide with five notch areas to the right or all the way to a warm spot, each bringing a deltaE center around 3 and whites within 4 units of the sign.

There are no HDR claims from pages of M51’s specs, but the phone reverts HDR types of compatible content to YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. No HDR playback is available on Netflix, however, even if the phone meets Wide vide Level 1 DRM data.

Samsung Galaxy M51 Battery Life:

The main claim of the Galaxy M51’s reputation is battery life — the 7,000mAh cell inside it is the largest we’ve ever seen on a massive product line. In large quantities, indeed, comes great endurance, as our experiments have proved.

We shut down 53 hours of voice calls with a single M51 charger, a record for all time Galaxy co-hosted with the Moto G9 Plus. The M51 is also ready for 25+ hours of offline video streaming or 17 hours of web-browsing Wi-Fi — impressive features. To measure the performance of the standby, we come to the full Endurance rating of 156h for the Galaxy M51.

Android 10 OneUI 2.5 on Top:

The Galaxy M51 boots Android 10, along with our review unit came with Samsung’s OneUI 2.1 on top, which was updated to 2.5 during the update process. Not that there is a noticeable difference in appearance and feeling between the two however. The lock screen is a standard mode with a few shortcuts in the bottom corners and notification icons at the bottom of the clock. The default display, of course, is available, and can be displayed at any time, according to the daily schedule, or when it is called a tap.

Unlocking the Galaxy M51 is best done with a set fingerprint sensor — surprisingly, this model doesn’t get a display unit under it even though it has the right display. The side-by-side solution used here works just as well as the left index finger and right thumb, and the opening is quick and reliable. The button is very high, but it’s a matter of giving yourself enough time to get used to it.

As with other things like this, you run the risk of developing a sensor with any skin contact by simply holding the phone in your pocket, resulting in a locked phone and an inactive sensor once you have removed it for use. If you happen to suffer more often than you would like, you may find that the sensor only interacts by pressing a button — otherwise, clicking is not required.

Pros:

  • Exceptional battery life, fast charging for the capacity
  • Good, if a little basic OLED display
  • Camera system delivers quality stills and video
  • Dedicated memory slot, FM radio

Cons:

  • 60Hz refresh rate when some competitors offer 90Hz and even 120Hz
  • Fingerprint sensor is somewhat awkwardly placed
  • No 60fps video recording
  • Stripped down OneUI — or is that a pro?

Competition:

Samsung’s don’t usually have it easy in lower market segments where it’s the likes of Xiaomi and Realme that rule by offering the most bang for the buck. It’s a similar situation that the Galaxy M51 finds itself.
